Setup a Database

Make sure you have some paper handy to write down names and credentials. They will be added to userpwds.

Start by creating the database.

  1. Login to cPanel for the account
  2. Choose Databases
  3. Enter a new database name – it should not be a word found in a dictionary
  4. Click “Create Database”
  5. Click “Go Back” to go back to the MySQL Database page
  6. Write down the database name

The next part is to create a user. You will do this on the same screen you just

  1. Scroll down to MySQL Users/Add New User
  2. Enter a username – again, it should not be a word found in a dictionary
  3. Write down the username
  4. Click the “Password Generator” button to generate a strong password
  5. Write down the password chosen
  6. Click “Create User”
  7. Click “Go Back” to go back to the MySQL Database page

Finally, you need to assign the user to the database.

  1. Scroll down to Add User to Database
  2. Choose the username you just created from the User dropdown box
  3. Choose the database name from the Database dropdown box
  4. Click “Add”
  5. Check the “All Privileges” box if this is a new user/database for WordPress. If not, check with Beth or Jeff to see what permissions this user should have.
  6. Click “Make Changes”
  7. Click “Go Back” – under Current Databases, you should see the database name with the user you just assigned to it
