cPanel – Mail – Apache SpamAssassin
Apache SpamAssassin can be found on the home interface under Mail. This function allows you to enable and configure an email filter that can identify and remove spam. You will also have the ability to whitelist and blacklist specific email addresses.
Enabling Apache SpamAssassin
- Click the Enable Apache SpamAssassin
- On the next screen click Go Back.
- If Apache SpamAssassin is enabled you will see the message Apache SpamAssassin is currently enabled above the button you just clicked.
Whitelist an Email Address or Domain
Adding an email address or domain to the whitelist ensures that email from that address or domain will not be filtered as spam.
- Click the Configure Apache SpamAssassin button at the bottom of the Apache SpamAssassin screen.
- Scroll down until you see text fields labeled whitelist_from.
- Simply enter any email addresses or domains you wish to allow. You can only add four email addresses at a time, if you save and return you will have four more fields to populate.
- Click Save at the bottom of the screen.
You can whitelist an entire domain using the following pattern: *@domain.com. This will allow anyone using an email address ending in @domain.com to send you mail without it being filtered as spam.
Blacklist an Email Address or Domain
A blacklist is the opposite of a whitelist, adding an email address or domain to the blacklist ensure that email from that address or domain will automatically be filtered as spam.
- Click the Configure Apache SpamAssassin button at the bottom of the Apache SpamAssassin screen.
- Scroll down until you see text fields labeled blacklist_from.
- Simply enter any email addresses or domains you wish to automatically filter as spam. You can only add four email addresses at a time, if you save and return you will have four more fields to populate.
- Click Save at the bottom of the screen.
Like the whitelist, you can blacklist an entire domain using the following pattern: *@domain.com. You can also blacklist top-level domains (.link, .ru, .pictures, .rock, .me, etc.) using the following pattern: *@*.ru. This would block all emails ending in .ru which is the internet country code top-level domain.
